I was born in the Illawarra and have lived, studied and worked here for most of my life.
I went to Dapto High School, and went on to study Education at the University of Wollongong. I then became a teacher at Lake Illawarra High School.
I am extremely passionate about making the Illawarra a great place to live, work and visit.
I was elected as Member for Keira in 2011 and in that time I am proud to have fought hard for improvements to our local area for the benefit of the community.
Since I was elected as Member for Keira, I have lobbied the NSW Government for improvements to Bulli Hospital’s emergency department. With the help and support of over 10,000 local residents who signed my petition, I was able to debate this issue on the floor of Parliament and demand the Government allocate this hospital the vital funding our community deserves.
I have been proud to award 23 local community groups, including local schools, sporting and community groups with a total of $400,000 in funding for improvements to facilities, as well as to improve and extend their services to our community.
I have successfully lobbied the NSW Government for improvements to local school facilities, including $300,000 for Woonona High’s science laboratories, $250,000 to replace roofing over Keira High School's buildings, and upgrades to the infants toilet block at Lindsay Park Public School.
I have strongly opposed the O’Farrell Government's attacks on Workers’ Compensation, irresponsible Coal Seam Gas policy and the Regional Relocations grant which pays people to leave our region.
As a former teacher, I am also fighting hard against O’Farrell’s appalling $1.7billion in cuts to education, as I believe the provision of a quality education for every child should be the number one priority of any government, in order to give our children the best possible start in life.
In October 2012 I was very honored to be given a role in the Shadow Cabinet. I will continue to work hard for the constituents of Keira who will always remain my main focus and priority. I look forward to the opportunity and challenge of being the Shadow Minister for Roads.
I am committed to ensuring our region receives it’s fair share of funding for services and infrastructure.
I love the Illawarra and I will continue to work hard to make sure it remains a great place to live.
