MEDIA STATEMENT – CORRIMAL ANZAC DAY MARCH

-->

Last I week requested an urgent meeting with RMS, Police and Council in a bid to ensure the Anzac Day march in Corrimal and Woonona can go ahead after it was revealed the cost to comply with additional traffic management plans would be prohibitive.

The reality is we all know that we live in a world where unfortunately there is a greater need to be vigilant and reduce risks around large public events, but this seems to be over the top. I am determined to do everything I can to see this march proceed to honour and remember our serviceman and women on our most sacred day.

I thoroughly respect that the NSW Police have to make their own safety assessments but I also believe that we as a community should not be denied the opportunity to share in the spirit of Anzac Day by getting out and seeing veterans, their families and loved ones march.

If costs are the barrier then the NSW Government needs to come to the party and ensure this situation is resolved. We need Premier Gladys Berejiklian to step in and help this club continue with their ANZAC Day traditions.
