Shadow Minister for the Illawarra and South Coast Ryan Park has today written to the NSW Fair Trading Commissioner to seek an urgent investigation in the organiser of the Festival of Light and Foam that was supposedly meant to take place over the long weekend but failed to eventuate costing local small businesses money and time.
Mr Park said operating a small business is hard enough without someone trying to take advantage of them and it’s important that the NSW Fair Trading Commissioner investigate what has occurred and more importantly assist in getting the money back to local small business owners who have been duded by the behaviour of Ms Deniau, the festival organiser.
The Illawarra has become a real centre for great events including the Yours and Owls Music Festival that successfully ran over the long weekend but it is important that festival organisers do the right thing by local suppliers and businesses who they need to work with to make events successful across the region.
Quotes from the Shadow Minister for the Illawarra and South Coast
“I am not going to sit by and allow local small business owners to be taken advantage of, it is simply not on and I will today be writing to the Fair Trading Commissioner seeking and undertaking that they will investigate and do what is ever possible to reclaim any money owning to local businesses”.
“This is not what we want to see here in the Illawarra given we have become a really significant market for major events and festivals across Australia and whilst that is great for our local economy, organisers must do the right thing by local suppliers and businesses who they rely on to make their event a success”.
Ms Deniau should do the right thing by local operators and refund any money owning to them immediately, given the reports today that dozens of local small businesses owners have been left out of pocket”.
