Around a thousand meals will be cooked every day out of the NSW Parliament kitchens to support those most vulnerable in the community in a move that has bipartisan support during these very difficult and challenging times.

Last week the NSW Shadow Minister for Homelessness Ryan Park wrote to the Speaker of the Parliament requesting that the kitchen and catering facilities be used to provide high quality meals to charity organisations supporting those doing it tough as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Park said he was delighted to receive advice from the Speaker, that the Parliament’s commercial grade kitchens and talented catering staff will be used to provide up to 1000 meals every day.

Mr Park said he was delighted to receive advice from the Speaker, that the Parliament’s commercial grade kitchens and talented catering staff will be used to provide up to 1000 meals every day.

“I am really delighted that during a difficult time for NSW Parliament can play a practical role in helping individuals and families by providing quality ready to eat meals direct to charities who are facing ever increasing demand for their services as the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic begin to take toll on the community” he said.

“I wrote to the Speaker because I didn’t want to see these high quality facilities left idle whilst charities were struggling to meet the demand for their assistance from families in financial crisis due to soaring job losses and the economic downturn that NSW is now experiencing” he said.

Mr Park said the Parliament was already in discussions with local charities and meals will start to be generated as early as this week to be distributed through organisations helping those struggling to make ends meet.
