Commuters on the South Coast Line who take time to provide feedback to the Minister for Transport aren’t guaranteed to have their feedback considered in an upcoming timetable review.
Since the rollout of the current timetable, commuters have experienced long waits on platforms, fewer direct services and overcrowding. Countless fed-up commuters have written to the person responsible for the new timetable, Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian and received complete disregard.
“It seems this Minister has an abundant lack of concern for the people of the Illawarra. Commuters have written to the Minister and she won’t even guarantee their concerns will be considered in an upcoming review of the timetable” Shadow Minister for the Illawarra Ryan Park said.
“Every week I receive correspondence from local residents who are sick to death of this Minister ignoring their concerns.
“I recently asked the Minister in Parliament if this feedback will be included in the timetable review and she failed to guarantee it would be considered. Concerning also is the fact the Minister also wouldn’t guarantee the community would be consulted during the review period” he said.
“It is clear that customer needs are not being met, in fact the commuters are so unhappy many are even turning to their cars and driving to Sydney. We should be looking at ways to encourage people to use public transport not forcing them away from it.
“To add insult this Minister has failed to ensure commuters are able to access the Opal card easily, with only limited outlets selling the cards and they are not available at the train station.
“I have said it before and will say it again, only a Liberal Government would introduce a new train ticketing system and not have them available to purchase at the train station” he said.
Mr Park said he had asked several times for a meeting to discuss this timetable and the Minister had declined every time. He said this showed how little she thought of the people of the Illawarra.
“This Minister seems to have no problem visiting Kiama however she refuses to meet with other MP’s to discuss this matter. What is she so afraid of?” he said.
