Labor is demanding the Government bolster the number of NSW Police and Australian Defence personnel assisting with the hotel quarantine program, after a second private security guard contracted COVID-19.
The guard has been fined for breaching the Public Health Act after failing to self-isolate while awaiting his test results.
The Shadow Minister for Health Ryan Park said NSW must learn from the outbreak in Victoria: “90% of all second wave cases in Victoria can be linked back to slip ups in the hotel quarantine arrangements. A breakout from hotel quarantine can have catastrophic outcomes across the community.
“Our message to the Premier is very simple. If you can’t guarantee private security guards can control these very important quarantine arrangements, then it’s time NSW Police and the ADF get more involved.
“We cannot continue to see breaches and weaknesses in our last line of defence.
“We’ve seen in Victoria that when it comes to these high risk quarantine environments, just one case can cause mayhem.”
