Keira MP Ryan Park and Campbelltown MP Greg Warren may be great mates – but on May 18 and July 27 the two NSW Labor colleagues will put their friendship to one side.

Mr Warren, a passionate Campbelltown Harlequins supporter, and Mr Park, a diehard Woonona Shamrocks fan, will put pride on the line when their beloved local rugby union sides battle it out.

As part of a friendly wager, Mr Park and Mr Warren have agreed to hang the opposition’s jersey in their electoral office for one week should their club’s first-grade team lose both fixtures.

In the event that both sides win one game each, the loser will be determined by the aggregate score.

The unfortunate losing MP will also officially acknowledge their rivals superiority in Parliament.

The first of the two fixtures will be held at Campbelltown Showground on May 18 with the second leg to be played at Ocean Park in Woonona on July 27.

Both MPs were confident of a favourable outcome.

Representatives from the Shamrocks and Harlequins have embraced the rivalry and vowed not to let their local member down.

Quotes attributed to Shadow Treasurer and Keira MP Ryan Park:

"It’s shaping up to be a great season and I’m confident we will see the mighty Shamrocks jersey displayed prominently on Greg’s office wall after July 27."

"I wish both great teams all the best for the 2019 season, but I will be cheering for the Shamrocks to be victorious."

"Greg and I are on the same page for many things but we will be on opposite paddocks for the upcoming games between the Shamrocks and the Harlequins."

Quotes attributed to Campbelltown MP Greg Warren:

"Ryan and I have enjoyed a long friendship built on common interests, beliefs and ideals.

"But when it comes to who we cheer for in the Illawarra rugby union comp, there is no common ground.

"I’m a passionate Quinnies supporter and he is an unwavering Shamrocks fan.

"The Shamrocks and Quinnies matches are always great games and I’m sure this friendly wager with Ryan will add a bit more spice to the contests."

Quotes attributed to Woonona Shamrocks president Garry Weston:

"Shamrocks are looking forward to a big season in our 50th year and we are pleased that Ryan is backing us.

"We are confident that you will see our jersey proudly displayed in the Member for Campbelltown’s office after we beat the Harlequins."

Quotes attributed to Campbelltown Harelquins committee member and first-grade player Mitch Gordon:

"Greg is regularly spotted on the sidelines cheering the boys on and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

"It would be a crying shame if he had to hang a Shamrocks jersey on his office wall for a week – it would actually be an insult to the entire community of Campbelltown.

"We’ll be doing our best to make sure that doesn’t happen."
