NSW Labor leader-elect Jodi McKay has announced two key appointments as part of her new administration.
Earlier today, she announced that she was assuming the Multiculturalism portfolio.
Ms McKay has agreed to a request from Keira MP Ryan Park to return to a more frontline service delivery-oriented role and will take on the Health portfolio. Mr Park has experience of working in the education and transport sectors.
Given his heartfelt budget reply speech in which he spoke of his personal interest in homelessness Mr Park has also been given responsibility for Housing and Homelessness. He also takes on the additional role of Leader of the Legislative Assembly to add to his position of Shadow Minister for the Illawarra.
Upper House MLC Walt Secord has agreed to take on the position of Shadow Treasurer. He retains the Arts portfolio. Mr Secord has experience as a chief of staff to a Premier and a chief of staff to a Treasurer.
The roles of Deputy Leader in the Legislative Assembly and Opposition Leader and Deputy Leader in the NSW Legislative Council will be decided tomorrow.
These two key appointments demonstrate the unity in the shadow cabinet and refresh her frontbench line-up.
Ms McKay said she wanted to announce these key appointments ahead of a full reshuffle so that they could begin work immediately.
