Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. Here you will find out what I have been up to in the Keira Electorate, including media, blog, local campaigns including current petitions, funding I have been able to secure for the local area.
As someone who was born in Wollongong Hospital and grew up in the region, I am extremely passionate about making the Illawarra a great place to live, work and visit
I went to Dapto High School, and went on to study Education at the University of Wollongong. I then became a teacher at Lake Illawarra High School.
I was elected as Member for Keira in 2011 and in that time I am proud to have fought hard for improvements to our local area for the benefit of the community.
One of my proudest achievements is the funding that has been secured for Bulli Hospital, thanks to the support of the community. Since I was elected, I strongly lobbied the NSW Government for improvements to this important local Hospital. With the help and support of over 10,000 local residents who signed my petition, I was able to debate this issue on the floor of Parliament and demand the Government allocate this hospital the vital funding our community deserves.
Another fantastic result was the opportunity to work with the NSW Labor Opposition to change the policy on Coal Seam Gas. The NSW Opposition has announced a policy that would see a complete ban on CSG mining in the “special areas” of Sydney’s drinking water catchment areas. I was very pleased to have been able to lead on this change. The concerns of the community cannot and should not be ignored and the water security for locals and millions of others across Sydney needs to be a priority.
I have been proud to award over 55 local community groups, including local schools, sporting and community groups over $1,000,000 in funding for improvements to facilities, as well as to improve and extend their services to our community.
I have successfully lobbied the NSW Government for improvements to local school facilities, including $300,000 for Woonona High’s science laboratories, $250,000 to replace roofing over Keira High School's buildings, and upgrades to the infants toilet block at Lindsay Park Public School.
I have strongly opposed the O’Farrell Government's attacks on Workers’ Compensation, irresponsible Coal Seam Gas policy and the Regional Relocations grant which pays people to leave our region.
As a former teacher, I fought hard against O’Farrell’s appalling $1.7billion in cuts to education, as I believe the provision of a quality education for every child should be the number one priority of any government, in order to give our children the best possible start in life.
In October 2012 I was very honored to be given a role in the Shadow Cabinet. I welcomed the opportunity to develop some policies in the portfolio of Roads. In December 2013 I changed portfolios and am now working hard as the Shadow Minister for Education as well as Shadow Minister for Illawarra.
I am very passionate about the Illawarra and in particular the Keira Electorate. I will continue to work hard to make sure it continues to go from strength to strength.
