Member for Keira Ryan Park has today spoken in Parliament about his ongoing concerns surrounding the South Coast Timetable scheduling and the impacts it continues to have on parking in Thirroul.
Mr Park said he simply couldn’t understand why the Minister was failing to recognise that there was a problem and introduce a few small changes to ease the parking congestion.
“I have been raising concerns with the NSW Government about the dramatic impact the train timetable is having on commuters in the northern suburbs. In particular I have raised concerns about the distinct lack of available parking around Thirroul” Mr Park said.
Mr Park went on to say that “The Government decided that rather than make a few timetabling adjustments that they needed to build a carpark. And it is important to note that this carpark has no direct link to the train station at Thirroul”
“The proposed new car park at Thirroul is certainly not the best way to fix this issue that is having a terrible impact on local residents, small business owners and of course locals.
“We have a situation where commuter car parks already exist at Woonona, Austinmer and Bulli yet due to poor scheduling, they are sitting empty” he said.
Mr Park said local commuters are forced to go past these commuter car parks to try and find a spot at Thirroul.
“We are not asking for too much, just for an additional stop on the express services where commuters can park their car at an existing commuter carpark. Again this being either Woonona, Bulli or Austinmer. It really is that simple.
“Add in an extra stop and reduce the parking congestion. No need for a waste of time and money car park at Thirroul” he said.
